We first moved into the new shop mid year, and behind schedule. Most of our materials storage came over from the old space, and was arranged pretty much as it had been previously. It worked, for the most part. But after a time, it became clear that we could make better use of the space, improve the flow of work, and reduce traffic jams.
Using materials we had in stock reclaimed from past productions, two new storage solutions were designed, built, and installed. Dimensional lumber was relocated to above the radial arm saw, and sheet goods were rotated to store on edge, making it easier to get to the sheet you wanted without emptying an entire shelf.
